Pledge to End Hunger: Social Media Working for Non-profits and Causes
"Some nonprofits view social networks as a panacea for expanded membership and increased giving," says Frank Ramirez, president of KindClicks, a web service using creative capitalism to support nonprofits. "However, social networks are only a single tool within a larger integrated strategy needed to ensure future organizational sustainability."
Like any tool, success with social media depends more on the craftsmanship of the user than on the availability of the tool. “The common pattern with nonprofits that are getting success is simple – they have a plan,†says Steve MacLaughlin, Blackbaud’s director of Internet solutions. “Organizations like the National Wildlife Federation have seen an increase in website traffic, activity, participation, and giving because they’ve put a social media strategy in place.â€
Now Tyson Foods has a plan! This week only, Tyson Foods has agreed to match every gift benefiting Share Our Strength for those people who donate to our team during a unique fundraising contest being held at www.charitysmackdown.com.
Give $5 and Share Our Strength receives $10. Give $100 and they receive $200. It’s that simple. You just need to make your donation prior to 11 pm ET on this Thursday (March 26). For more details and to make your donation, you can visit Charity Smackdown. Or we’ll make it even simpler for you. You can use this donation widget below to make your gift. Either way, you can fulfill your pledge and double the impact you make. And if we raise the most money during this contest, PayPal will donate an additional $5,000 to Share Our Strength. Help us win!
Right now you can help end hunger in Austin. Tyson foods is going to donate 35 lbs. of food (equivalent to 140 servings) to the Capital Area Food Bank of Austin for every pledge they receive.
I know you’re thinking that it’s a request for money, and if you have it to give, that’s great! But if you’re hard hit by economic times, you can still pledge. You can pledge to volunteer. Or you can pledge to share information about the Pledge to End Hunger on Twitter, Facebook, or your blog. There are many ways to pledge, so I challenge you all to get involved.
