Spotlight on Florida Association of Computer User Groups

Florida Association of Computer User Groups, FACUG is the leading regional association of its kind in the country. It is a southeast regional, non-profit tax exempt association, of independent computer user groups including PC and MAC groups.


Founded in 1993 to assist user groups in the performance of their managerial and educational activities, to promote communications among local user groups, and to facilitate relations between user groups and the computer industry. FACUG is the successor organization to the Florida Suncoast Conference of PC User Groups. Suncoast was one of the early regional groups having been started in 1989 in Sarasota.


The Association of Personal Computer User Groups (APCUG) is a nationwide organization that helps local computer user groups by facilitating communications between local groups, computer hardware and software makers, and hardware and software vandors. A non-profit corporation APCUG also helps member groups and their officers fulfill their education goals with support materials and shared knowledge and experience.


Beginning this weekend for the first time ever, FACUG and APCUG are pooling their resources and offering a combined Spring Conference, March 13, 14 & 15 – 2009, to be held at the Lions Club, 5827 Dean Dairy Rd., Zephyrhills, Fl 33541.


“This will be a totally new experience. We thought we had a great conference last year with 98% of the participants indicating a strong desire to return. We are not ready to let everything out of the bag just yet, but Hewie Poplock, who we all know has always prepared top notch professional presentations, will be chairing this year’s program committee. We will be having a greater emphasis on technology. With this change in emphasis we will be expanding the conference to the entire membership, in fact, the general public will be invited. This might help serve to build membership in local groups.”
