Salesforce for Google Apps Partnership
Posted by Sterling RaphaelApril 18th, 2008

Google and Salesforce.com have announced the launch of a jointly developed product that integrates the key features of Google Apps with the key features of Salesforce.com, the leader in web-based CRM software with more than 41,000+ corporate customers. Called “Salesforce for Google Apps,” the new product is available immediately at no cost to Salesforce.com customers, and includes tight integration with Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, and Google Talk.
From a brief look at this integration, it certainly appears to be another catalyst for Google’s continuing improvement/progress.
“Salesforce for Google Apps is a simple, yet powerful combination of Web-based business applications that streamline communication and collaboration and have the power to change the way you work.”
According to Adam Ostrow, another important piece of the partnership to note is that developers can now build applications specifically for the Salesforce for Google Apps product. There are already 7 third-party apps available at launch, with many more in the works.
On the other side of the coin, Google Apps, launched a little more than a year ago, doesn’t have the security features or support that enterprise customers demand, says Chris Caposella, senior vice-president of Microsoft’s Information Worker Product Management Group, which oversees the company’s Office operations. “They don’t understand the enterprise yet, and the big question is will they have the intestinal fortitude to learn?” Caposella says. “It took Microsoft 10 years to get there.
