BarCamp Orlando 2008

It’s official, the next BarCampOrlando will be taking place on Saturday, April 5th and Sunday, April 6th in Downtown Orlando at Wall Street Plaza. April 5th is Developer Day and April 6th is Media Day!

From a previous blog,

“BarCamp is a learning environment with tech folks giving presentations throughout the day on different technologies, programs, industry trends and more. The mood is all about learning and networking with others in the industry. It’s an all day event that feels almost like a conference but in a smaller venue which really lends itself to meeting new people and conversing about technology and other topics about the industry.”

And further details - “BarCamp is an ad-hoc unconference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees.” Organizers stress that BarCamp is about support as much as it is about information. Thus, this year, NFi Studios will be sponsoring BarCampOrlando 2008 and presenting two topics at BarCamp.

Now on to BarCampOrlando 2008 – if you are planning to attend, listed below are some of the pre-attendance preparations found in more detail at http://barcamp.org/.

• Pre-register on the wiki. There’s a signup page for your local event. Please put your name and any organization you represent on the form, to give coordinators an idea as to how many people are coming (and to get your nametag printed, instead of Sharpie’d!)

• Bring a laptop - It’s great for showing off that program you mentioned in your session. Plus, there are many hotspots provided, and plenty of downtime to browse around and look into everything you’ve learned.

• Come early, but not too early - Showing up at the announced starting time will be fine.

• Be ready to participate - come with an idea for a session you can lead. You don’t have to be an expert at your topic; as long as it’s not too specific, there’ll probably be someone else present who can help you out. You can also contribute to the conversation during a session. This is a great way to participate, since it spreads knowledge from everyone, instead of just the leader.

Indeed, BarCampOrlando is growing in popularity! You don’t want to miss BarCampOrlando 2008. Go ahead and register, attend, participate…then by entering your comments, let us know what this ‘unconference’ meant to you and tell us about your overall attendee experience.
