NFi to Attend the Future of Web Apps (FOWA) Conference
Posted by Sterling RaphaelFebruary 27th, 2008

The Future of Web Apps and Services is an article written by Chris Preimesberger, quoting Paul Saffo, director of The Institute for the Future and discusses Saffo’s point of interest regarding Web Apps. “If you think we lean on the Web a lot now, just wait a couple years. It will soon pervade our entire lifestyle. “Historically, the Web is a true phenomenon. I was startled to see it take off so fast,” he said. “In only 10 years, we have Web access on our desks, in our pockets, on our TVs, and in our cars. But we haven’t seen anything yet. This thing is just in its infancy. It’ll be everywhere we look: in our appliances, our wallets, our clothing, under our skin, you name it. And a lot of good people will be needed to make all this work.”
The Future of Web Apps is a subject that launches the NFI team on the road again! This time to Miami with a great sense of purpose … that being to attend the FOWA conference. FOWA tends to instigate much interest across the web and now the Conference chatter has them crossing the ocean to land on Miami shores February 28th – March 1st, 2008. “The Future Of Web Apps is hitting the East Coast for the very first time, bringing their fresh blend of amazing speakers, great advice and tons of networking potential.”
Some of the many diverse, high calibre speakers for this conference will include Kevin Rose, founder of Digg; Erick Schonfeld, Co-Editor of TechCrunch and has been covering startups and technology news for 14 years. Kevin Marks will also address attendees. Kevin is author of the weblog Epeus Epigone and a software engineer at Google. He became principal engineer for Technorati after doing work for both Apple and the BBC. He is one of the founders of Microformats.
Dan Rubin will be presenting a morning workshop which will present the following learning opportunities:
- Principles of interaction; lessons from HCI
- GUI anatomy and interaction design patterns
- Ajax: When and how to use it
- Tools for communication with your users
- The future of web application design
“Designing a web application requires a very different set of skills from designing a regular site. As interfaces grow more complex, so does the challenge of clearly communicating them to a site’s users.”
Other workshops of great interest are also scheduled. Hand-in-hand, we will also be attending BarCampMiami while in South Florida. BarCampMiami is a free conference on innovation in South Florida. Also, set up for the conference attendees is a social network called Crowdvine, where people can network before the conference to create new relationships.
No doubt, this weekend will be a busy, but rewarding experience which will enhance NFi overall and offer us the capacity to share and adapt our knowledge to the benefit of our clients.
