Orlando Downtown Venues Passed

July 30th, 2007 | Posted by Lynda Raphael

As almost everyone knows by now, by vote and enthusiastic support, Orlando did it! A 1.1 billion downtown venues plan! What a fabulous bonus for an already awesome world-class tourist destination. Ah! Victory, sweet victory! There’s nothing like it! Indeed, this is a Vision Fulfilled. More can be read about the arduous road traversed to bring this much anticipated result at the Orlando Sentinel blog

Now, let’s think this through. What benefits are derived from this, the largest public building project in Central Florida history?

First benefit domino to go down will be:

  • a substantial increase in local employment
  • countless business opportunities (attraction of private and public investments)
  • growth increase of surrounding communities and a huge boost to the area housing market
  • the arrival of world renowned artists
  • major sporting events

Uh oh, are we just thinking about the benefits of downtown’s revitalization; or can we develop a roadmap to use to contribute to Orlando’s new venture?  After all, we do have a vested personal interest. Remember what realtors always say, “location, location, location!” This location is our HOME!

So now, a few suggestions for us all to consider to make the now approved vision a reality:

  • Get involved! Attend meetings (make sure you are on the list to receive meeting notices and project updates
  • Volunteer (everyone can do something to make a difference) be available to assist with Orlando’s up-to-the-minute high tech growth
  • Make a contribution or solicit contributions to help defray costs
  • Promote citizen awareness and involvement

In other words, in every way possible, together lets go forward, one direction, one goal, resulting in the emergence of Orlando’s new arena, performing arts center and Florida’s Citrus Bowl upgrade!
